US Coast Guard Airlifts Sick Crew Member from Liberty Passion Near Nantucket
On March 16, 2017, a critical medevac operation was carried out by the US Coast Guard for an ailing crew member aboard the vessel Liberty Passion, approximately 45 miles southeast of Nantucket, Massachusetts. The situation unfolded around 9 a.m. when the ship's doctor alerted the Coast Guard Southeastern New England, indicating that the crew member was experiencing severe abdominal pain and required immediate medical assistance. Quick to respond, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod was dispatched and reached the scene by 10:45 a.m. The helicopter crew successfully airlifted the distressed individual from the Liberty Passion and transported him to a designated airport in Hyannis. There, Emergency Medical Services were on standby to take him to Cape Cod Hospital for prompt treatment.
