US Military Reinforces NATO's Eastern Flank with Shipment of Tanks and Vehicles

May 13, 2026 13:10

On May 10, 2026, the cargo vessel 'Liberty Power' docked in Gdansk, Poland, after making its transatlantic journey from Corpus Christi, Texas. This shipment is part of the United States' ongoing operation 'Atlantic Resolve,' aimed at bolstering NATO's eastern defenses. A total of 4,000 soldiers from the 2nd Armored Brigade of the 1st Cavalry Division, based at Fort Hood, are making their way to Europe, accompanied by hundreds of tanks and military vehicles. The 'Liberty Power' made history as the first freighter to complete this critical crossing, and since May 11, it has been diligently unloading military assets at the Gdansk port. The brigade participated in a ceremonial act on May 1, where they folded their regimental colors at their Texas home base, which they will soon re-display in support of NATO operations. Although the troops are being airlifted to locations in Poland and Germany, the brigade's armored vehicles are traversing the ocean by sea. From Fort Hood, they will be transported approximately 500 kilometers by rail to the port in Corpus Christi, where they will be loaded aboard ships for their transatlantic journey. Besides Gdansk, additional unloading sites include Bremerhaven and Thessaloniki, which will be active through June. This operation underscores NATO's collective commitment to maintaining readiness and defense capabilities alongside its allies.
