Adverse Weather Conditions Halt Iqaluit AIVIK Sealift for Over a Week
Deteriorating weather, including southeast winds and ice encroachment, has led to significant delays in the Iqaluit sealift, specifically affecting the MV Aivik operated by Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping. Initially scheduled to arrive in Iqaluit on July 8 or 9, the 110-meter cargo vessel was rescheduled to July 12, only to have those plans disrupted further. With ice blocking the bay, the icebreaker is unable to provide the necessary escort for the Aivik, forcing it to divert its course to Cambridge Bay instead. Following its visit to Cambridge Bay, the Aivik will continue on its traditional route and eventually return to Iqaluit, though a specific date for its arrival remains uncertain.
