On June 20, 2017, the bulk carrier 'Conception Light' encountered a significant challenge during its navigation of the Kiel Canal, departing from Kotka and approaching the Navy Pilings in Brunsbüttel. The vessel experienced an unexpected engine failure, putting it on a collision course with the 'Hav Marlin,' which was maneuvering nearby. Quick thinking by the crew allowed them to avert disaster by dropping both anchors, successfully halting the ship in the nick of time. Fortunately, the tug 'Bugsier 18,' which was preparing to assist the 'Chem Altamira' into the lock, was able to switch focus and assist the 'Conception Light' in recovering its anchors. After approximately 30 tense minutes, the crew managed to restart the engine, and the bulk carrier proceeded into the lock under the guidance of the tug. By 1 p.m., the 'Conception Light' continued its journey towards the North Sea, on course for Huelva with an estimated time of arrival set for June 25.
