Armored Thieves Strike 'Aeolian Grace' in Singapore Strait

May 28, 2025 13:30

In a daring incident at sea, the 'Aeolian Grace' was targeted by a group of five armed assailants on May 23, 2025, at approximately 1:10 a.m. The vessel was navigating the eastern lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the Singapore Strait, roughly 1.8 nautical miles off Pulau Cula, at coordinates 1° 3.53' N 103° 31.31' E. The attackers, equipped with long pipes, managed to board the ship and made off with crucial engine spares, raising concerns about maritime security in the region.

Successful Refloating of Bulk Carrier 'Aeolian Grace'

Mar 12, 2020 19:01

The bulk carrier 'Aeolian Grace' was successfully refloated on March 9, 2023, thanks to the coordinated efforts of four powerful tugboats. Smit Salvage Americas, engaged under a Lloyd's Open Form salvage agreement, played a pivotal role in the operation, which was closely overseen by the Brazilian Navy and the Port State Captaincy to ensure compliance and safety. Following the successful refloat, the vessel was returned to its owners on March 10. The 'Aeolian Grace' is currently at its mooring, located at coordinates 26° 10.90' N 048° 34.88' W, where it is undergoing a thorough diving inspection and survey to assess its condition.

Salvage Operation Underway for the Grounded Bulk Carrier Aeolian Grace

Mar 06, 2020 13:02

The bulk carrier 'Aeolian Grace' found itself stranded on March 4, 2023, after running aground on a stone slab in the Port of São Francisco do Sul. As of March 6, the vessel remains stuck, secured in place by two tugboats while salvage operations are planned. A refloating date has yet to be confirmed. Initially, it was considered to use the tugs for the refloating maneuver; however, this plan was scrapped due to concerns over potential damage to an onboard oil tank, which could lead to environmental pollution. Resultantly, the shipowner is in the process of hiring a professional salvage company. On March 5, a specialized team of technicians formulated a comprehensive salvage plan in accordance with regulations set forth by the Brazilian Navy. The timeline for the vessel's refloating will only be determined once these assessments are completed. In addition, the Brazilian Navy has mandated the presence of a pilot aboard the 'Aeolian Grace' to ensure safety during the salvage operation. At the time of the incident, the vessel was fully loaded with 65,804 tonnes of soybeans and had just commenced its unberthing maneuver, located approximately 500 meters outside the navigational channel of the port. While the Port of São Francisco do Sul has not been officially closed, any upcoming navigational undertakings will require thorough evaluation by piloting authorities and explicit authorization from the Port Authority.
