Cargo Vessel Allides with Another Ship in Brake Incident
On March 8, 2018, at approximately 10:20 a.m., a maritime incident occurred involving the cargo vessel m/v "Barbarossa" (IMO No.: 9197765) in Brake. As the vessel was preparing to dock at the South Pier, it fell victim to strong tidal streams, which ultimately resulted in a collision with the foreship of the m/v "Loch Lomond". The "Barbarossa" had embarked from Immingham on March 4, en route to the Weser River. Reports suggest that the master of the vessel miscalculated the powerful currents present at the Weser bend in Brake, rendering the ship nearly impossible to maneuver amidst the outgoing tide. Damage sustained by the "Barbarossa" included a portion of its railing and a rope basket, totaling repair costs amounting to several thousand Euros.
