German Containerships Favor Gibdock for Repairs

Dec 23, 2017 18:30

Gibdock's reputation among German shipowners for high-quality shiprepair services continues to thrive. In the final quarter of 2017, three German containerships made their way to the Gibraltar shipyard in a span of just six weeks. Among them was the 3,091 teu Louis S, owned by Schepers Rudolf Reederei, which docked for essential maintenance and repair work. The 220-meter vessel was stationed in dock No 1 for approximately one week, addressing various technical issues including a stern tube problem that necessitated the dismantling of the propeller unit. Juan Pinero, the ship manager, noted that Gibdock had to produce specialized tooling specifically for this dismantling process to facilitate the necessary repairs. In the workshop, the dedicated Gibdock team focused on overhauling the propeller seals and reassembling the components for reinstallation onboard. In addition to the mechanical repairs, the yard also took the opportunity to wash and repaint the vessel's underwater hull, ensuring that the Louis S is in top condition for its next voyage.
