Dramatic Medevac of Russian Sailor Off the Colombian Coast

Jul 06, 2018 12:05

A harrowing incident unfolded 80 miles off the coast of Colombia when a Russian sailor aboard the vessel 'Alaed' fell from a height of six meters while performing deck work. The accident left the sailor with serious injuries, including fractures to his forearm, hip, and left ankle. In response to a mayday call, the National Navy swiftly deployed both a helicopter and a boat to conduct the medical evacuation. The 'Alaed' was en route from Santiago de Cuba to Barranquilla at the time of the accident. After being safely hoisted aboard the rescue craft, the injured sailor was first taken to the Health Establishment of the Naval School of Sub-officers ARC Barranquilla, before being transferred to a clinic in northern Barranquilla for further treatment. Engine Blackout Disrupts Kiel Canal Lock Operations

Oct 28, 2016 12:10

On October 27, 2016, at approximately 5:40 PM, the cargo vessel 'Alaed', which was navigating from Suez to Liepaja, experienced an unexpected engine failure while approaching the Kiel Canal locks at Holtenau. The vessel had secured its bow with one rope but was forced to release the second as it drifted away from the middle wall while the propeller continued to operate. This unfortunate incident led to the propeller getting entangled with chains from the fendering systems within the lock, resulting in damage. The crew swiftly threw the bow rope back onboard. However, the immense tension on the forespring posed a risk of breaking, preventing the stern from being maneuvered closer to the quay. After two attempts, the engine was successfully restarted, and within 15 minutes, the 'Alaed' was safely docked. Following the incident, the lock was temporarily closed to allow for investigations. At 7:15 PM, the vessel was cleared to resume its journey, with an estimated arrival at Liepaja set for October 29 at 6 AM. Incident Report: Unapproved Lifeboat Deployment Leads to Injuries on Alaed

Mar 19, 2014 09:51

On March 18, 2014, an unfortunate incident transpired during an unauthorized lifeboat launch aboard the vessel 'Alaed' while it was docked at the St. Petersburg port. The lifeboat was being prepared for repairs with three crew members on board: the chief engineer, the third engineer, and an electrical engineer. During the launch, the electrical engineer unexpectedly fell into the water, leading to injuries for all three individuals involved. Following the incident, they were promptly hospitalized for treatment. It is important to note that the lifeboat was launched without the necessary permissions, raising considerations about adherence to safety protocols within maritime operations.
