On March 8, 2020, a serious incident unfolded in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Mumbai, when a crane boom collapsed on the vessel 'LTS 3000'. The mishap resulted in injuries to two crew members, with one suffering a broken leg while the details of the other’s injury remain unspecified. Both workers were promptly airlifted to a nearby hospital for medical attention. At the time of the accident, 'LTS 3000' was engaged in operations for India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, specifically working on the Cluster 8 offshore development project, located to the west of Mumbai. The crane involved in the incident was a powerful 3,000-ton PC-42 HVY crane, featuring an impressive 82-meter boom designed to operate efficiently at a maximum capacity within a 27-meter radius. The incident was triggered by a failure in either the boom hoist rope or the winch, causing the crane boom to drop along with the load it was supporting.
