Bulk Carrier 'Sunrise' Grounds Near Burgas While Transporting South Stream Pipeline Pipes
On January 3, 2015, the bulk carrier 'Sunrise' grounded in the shallow waters off the entrance to Burgas port as it attempted to navigate into the harbor. The vessel was transporting a cargo of pipes destined for the South Stream pipeline project, raising questions about the delivery despite construction activities being halted. Thankfully, the tug 'Maersk Tracer,' in coordination with two additional tugs, successfully managed to refloat the stranded vessel. Since then, the 'Sunrise' has remained moored in the port.
