In a prompt response to a medical emergency, the Sri Lanka Navy successfully evacuated an ailing crew member from the 'Maersk Avon' vessel, facilitating his transport to Colombo on April 11, 2020. The crew member, identified as 38-year-old Mandekar Namit Siddappa, suffered from severe abdominal pain while at sea. Feeder Agencies Lanka (Private) Ltd., the designated local representative for the ship, reached out to the International Shipping and Harbor Facility Security Office (ISPS) to arrange for his urgent disembarkation in Sri Lanka for medical treatment. The Navy's Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit swiftly approached the vessel, which was located approximately 0.5 miles off the coast of Colombo. Following established health protocols, the Navy brought the patient ashore safely. Upon arrival at the harbor, the individual underwent disinfection before being transported to Colombo National Hospital via ambulance for further medical care.
