Three Hanjin Vessels Auctioned in Rotterdam
On December 5, 2023, three Hanjin vessels—'Hanjin Europe', 'Hanjin Harmony', and 'Hanjin Africa'—were sold in Rotterdam for a total of $392 million. The transactions were made on behalf of an undisclosed buyer, represented by attorney Carel van Lynden. These vessels were previously owned by Resolute Leasing, based in the Isle of Man, which had leased them to the now-defunct shipping line Hanjin. The sale was prompted by outstanding debts owed to the German financial institution HSH Nordbank, totaling a staggering $1.8 billion. Prior to the sale, the ships had been anchored off the coast of Scheveningen for several weeks.
