Record-Breaking Cargo Handling Achieved by Maersk at Los Angeles Port
In a significant achievement for the maritime industry, Danish shipping leader Maersk has announced the establishment of a new world record for cargo handling during a single port visit. The milestone was reached by the MV Maersk Evora during its recent docking at the Port of Los Angeles. At APM Terminals' Pier 400, the vessel efficiently managed a staggering total of 24,846 TEUs during this visit, setting a remarkable benchmark for vessel port calls worldwide. On October 17, the Maersk Evora arrived at the Los Angeles port fully loaded, featuring an unprecedented nine containers stacked above deck, marking a first for any U.S. port. After completing its port operations, the container ship departed Los Angeles on October 22, with its next destination being East Asia, and is scheduled to make its first stop in Yokohama, Japan on November 7. The Maersk Evora, which was delivered to the fleet in 2011, has a length of 366 meters and boasts a nominal capacity of 13,492 TEUs. This impressive performance not only highlights the efficiency and capabilities of Maersk but also showcases the increasing demands of global shipping operations.

This delivery marks a pivotal moment as it is part of a long-term charter arrangement with Maersk Line. Notably, the Maersk Evora is among the trio in the second installment of super post-panamax vessels, following two previous deliveries, with the final ship of this batch anticipated in July. This update is based on insights shared by Alphaliner, a respected newsletter based in Paris. With a capacity of 13,092 TEU, the Maersk Evora is set to contribute significantly to Maersk's operational efficiency and global shipping reach.
