Fire Destroys Liebherr Crane During Unloading of Maersk Lavras in Buenos Aires

Jan 21, 2021 09:17

A significant incident occurred on January 19, 2021, at 11 a.m. when a fire erupted in the engine room of a Liebherr mobile crane located at APM Global Logistic Argentina Container Terminal 4, while unloading the 'Maersk Lavras' at Dock C in Buenos Aires. The blaze led to an immediate halt of cargo operations. Thankfully, the crane operator managed to escape unharmed. Emergency services from the Prefectura Naval Argentina responded promptly, but the fire rapidly escalated after reaching a fuel tank, ultimately resulting in the crane being completely engulfed in flames. The Environmental Protection Service was also present at the scene. In a bid to control the situation and safeguard the vessel, fire-fighting equipment aboard the 'Maersk Lavras' was deployed to help extinguish the fire.

Maersk Lavras Diverts to London Gateway Amidst Felixstowe Congestion, Optimizing Asia-Europe Operations

Jan 19, 2016 12:40

In response to escalating congestion challenges at the Port of Felixstowe, Maersk Line has decided to redirect its AE1 service vessel, the 8,850 TEU Maersk Lavras, to London Gateway. This change is set to take effect at the end of this week following an advisory issued to customers last week. The Maersk Lavras is poised to unload a substantial cargo of 2,251 containers, all designated for Maersk Line, at London Gateway during a 24-hour period starting at 1am on Saturday. Notably, the vessel will not be accepting any export loads and will proceed to Bremerhaven afterward to continue its regular schedule. This strategic shift aims to alleviate the pressures resulting from berth and landside delays at Felixstowe, enhancing the efficiency of Asia-Europe trade routes.
