Maersk Welcomes the Maersk Lota, First of SAMMAX Class Ships
In a significant development for global shipping, Danish maritime leader Maersk has taken delivery of the Maersk Lota, marking the introduction of its South America Maximum (SAMMAX) class vessels. This new addition boosts the fleet's capacity from 7,450 TEU to an impressive 8,700 TEU, thanks to an elevated wheelhouse and an enhanced weather deck that allows for an additional layer of containers. The Maersk Lota is the inaugural ship in a series of 16 advanced vessels ordered back in June 2008 from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in South Korea. This vessel is set to operate on the Far East-ECSA service in collaboration with Hamburg Sud, a route known as ASAS 1/NGX 1, as noted by Alphaliner.
