Working Conditions Aboard the Maersk-Memphis

On June 15, 2017, the United States Coast Guard acted swiftly to investigate a reported bomb threat aboard the container ship 'Maersk Memphis' docked at the Wando terminal in Charleston. Following an initial assessment, authorities evacuated the vessel as federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies launched a thorough investigation into the alarming situation. To ensure safety, a one nautical mile exclusion zone was enforced around the ship during the operation. Around 3:45 a.m., the Coast Guard announced via its official Twitter account that they had examined four containers identified as potential threats and confirmed that they posed no danger. The Unified Command subsequently declared the port secure, leading to the reopening of the terminal and the lifting of the safety zone. The incident was triggered by an anonymous call, which was further corroborated by a related YouTube video. In connection with the threat, authorities detained an individual for questioning regarding the original report.
