Containership 'Maersk Pittsburgh' to Stay Quarantined in Algeciras Until September 30
The containership 'Maersk Pittsburgh' is set to remain docked at the Port of Algeciras until September 30, 2023, due to an enforced quarantine stemming from two positive COVID-19 cases among its crew. The vessel arrived in Algeciras after its journey from Salalah, Oman, where two external guards were diagnosed with COVID-19. While both cases are reported as asymptomatic, health authorities mandated the isolation of the crew aboard the ship and its transfer to a safer, sheltered dock until the situation is managed. Following the implementation of rigorous safety measures by the shipping company to ensure crew well-being and maintain hygienic loading and unloading processes, the Maritime Captaincy, in coordination with Foreign Health authorities, authorized the vessel's transfer to the APMT terminal. Cargo operations were carried out as planned upon its arrival. After the completion of these operations, the Algeciras Port Pilots Corporation relocated the 'Maersk Pittsburgh' back to the sheltered dock on the evening of September 24, where it will stay until the end of the month.
