Distressed Migrants Rescued by SAR Vessel Near Lanzarote

On July 14, 2022, a timely intervention by the SAR vessel 'Guardamar Polimnia' resulted in the rescue of 55 migrants, including seven children, who were found in a precarious situation approximately 98 kilometers northeast of Lanzarote. The group, comprised of 38 men, ten women, and seven minors, all of sub-Saharan descent, were attempting to make their way to the Canary Islands aboard a Zodiac. The rescue operation commenced following the sighting of the distressed vessel by the container ship 'Maersk Roubaix', which was making its journey from Monrovia to Albouraya. The 'Maersk Roubaix' spotted the Zodiac at around 8:05 a.m. and stayed alongside to provide support until 'Guardamar Polimnia' arrived for the rescue. The operation concluded successfully, with all individuals safely brought to the port of Arrecife by approximately 2:30 p.m. The 'Maersk Roubaix' then continued its journey, with an expected arrival date of July 16.

Stranded Maersk Roubaix Successfully Towed to Taranto Port

On December 20, 2021, the container ship 'Maersk Roubaix' encountered a serious engine malfunction and subsequent power loss, leaving it adrift in the Ionian Sea while navigating from Tuzla to Onne. The vessel's position at the time was recorded at 36°18'50" N latitude and 18°10'54" E longitude. Unable to perform necessary repairs onboard, the crew sought external assistance. The tugboat 'Pantokrator' was brought in to tow the stricken vessel to the closest container port, located in Taranto. The towage operation officially commenced on December 23. After several days at sea, the convoy successfully reached Taranto on December 25 at 11 a.m., following the completion of all required formalities. A thorough damage assessment was promptly undertaken by a class surveyor, alongside representatives from the ship's owners and Hull & Machinery (H&M) experts, to determine the root cause of the incident and the overall condition of the vessel.

Robbery Incident on the Maersk Roubaix at Pointe Noire

On October 20, 2019, a theft was uncovered aboard the Maersk Roubaix while the vessel was docked at Pointe Noire. During a routine inspection by the onboard ISPS security team, it was found that the padlock securing the paint locker had been breached, leading to the discovery of stolen ship equipment. Following this incident, the Maersk Roubaix departed from the Pointe Noire anchorage and is currently en route to Matadi, with an estimated time of arrival set for October 31.
