Hamburg Süd Unveils Newest Addition to ‘San’ Class Fleet: The ‘San Vicente’
Hamburg Süd proudly unveiled the ‘San Vicente’, the third vessel in its innovative ‘San’ class, during a ceremonial event at the Cuenca del Plata terminal in Montevideo. Attended by esteemed customers and partners, the official naming ceremony highlighted the company’s commitment to enhancing its fleet. This cutting-edge container ship boasts a remarkable nominal capacity of approximately 9,000 TEU and is equipped with 1,370 reefer slots, ensuring a substantial capacity for refrigerated containers, as noted in the company’s press release. The honor of sponsoring the ‘San Vicente’ went to Elisa Maier, wife of Roland Maier, the owner of Swiss Commodity Supplies AG, a valued partner of Hamburg Süd over the years. Frank Smet, a member of the Hamburg Süd Executive Board, was also present at the event, celebrating this significant milestone for the company. Constructed at the renowned Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, the ‘San Vicente’ was delivered in early November 2022. Shortly thereafter, it was integrated into Hamburg Süd’s regular liner service linking Asia, South Africa, and the East Coast of South America. The ‘San Vicente’ joins her sister ships, the ‘San Clemente’ and ‘San Christobal’, in providing reliable service within the growing maritime trade routes.
