On July 21, Cochin Port in South India will witness a historic event when the Maersk Sembawang arrives, making it the largest container vessel ever to call at this port. Measuring an impressive 318.79 meters in length and boasting a capacity of 6,478 TEUs, the Maersk Sembawang is a flagship vessel of Maersk Line, flying under the Singapore flag. Previously, the title of the largest vessel to visit South Indian ports was held by another Maersk Line ship, the Maersk Kalamata, which measured 303.83 meters and had a capacity of 6,416 TEUs. This strategic call by Maersk Line is designed to support local demands during the busy cashew season in South India as part of its Asia-Europe eastbound routing.

The 'Maersk Sembawang' (IMO 9315226) is back in action as of November 20, having completed a two-week hiatus following a storm that caused the loss of 26 containers. The vessel had to make a crucial stop at Le Havre to address the aftermath of the inclement weather. A meticulous operation was carried out at Quay Bougainville to unload both the lost and damaged cargo, as well as to secure containers that had shifted precariously on the ship's aft deck. After resolving these issues, the 'Maersk Sembawang' successfully departed Le Havre and, on November 24 at 6 p.m., arrived safely in Zeebrugge, marking a smooth end to its transit without any further incidents.
