Houthi Terrorists Strike at Maersk Sentosa in Red Sea Incident
On July 9, 2024, an alarming maritime incident unfolded as the British maritime security agency, United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), reported an attack on the Maersk Sentosa while it was navigating through the Red Sea. The vessel was situated approximately 180 nautical miles east of Nishtun, Yemen, when the captain detected a nearby explosion. Fortunately, the Maersk Sentosa emerged unscathed, continuing its journey towards the next scheduled port of call without any reported casualties. The attack involved an array of ballistic and wing missiles, originating from the northern Gulf of Aden. In a statement released by Houthi terrorist representatives, it was claimed that they also launched drone attacks on two other vessels, including the Marathopolis in the Arabian Sea and the MSC Patnaree III in the Gulf of Aden. This episode follows the U.S. Central Command's (CENTCOM) successful destruction of two Houthi uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) just two days earlier, on July 7, in areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen.
