On June 1, 2024, Houthi militants announced they had launched a series of attacks on prominent maritime vessels, including the U.S. aircraft carrier 'Dwight D. Eisenhower' (MMSI: 368962000) and the destroyer USS 'Gravely' (MMSI: 369970634). The assailants also targeted commercial ships such as the 'Abliani' (IMO: 9693068), 'Maina' (IMO: 9699892), and 'Al Oraiq' (IMO: 9360790) in both the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. This string of attacks coincided with military operations carried out by USCENTCOM and British forces, which targeted 13 areas in Yemen held by Houthi forces on May 30. Reports indicate that the 'Eisenhower' endured multiple missile and drone strikes during the confrontations. The 'Abliani' was navigating the Red Sea on its route from Le Havre to Suez at the time of the attack. Moreover, the Houthi faction reported two separate assaults on the 'Maina', which was traveling from Ust Luga to Krishnapatnam, one occurring in the Red Sea and the other in the Arabian Sea. The 'Al Oraiq', meanwhile, was struck while en route from Ras Laffan to Chioggia in the Indian Ocean. Following these events, on June 2, USCENTCOM confirmed that they had destroyed one uncrewed aerial system (UAS) in the southern Red Sea, while identifying two additional UAS that crashed in the same area. Fortunately, no casualties were reported during these incidents. Additionally, USCENTCOM successfully neutralized two Houthi anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBM) aimed at the USS 'Gravely', demonstrating their proactive defense against these escalated threats in the maritime domain.
