Malta Cement Runs Aground Near Kalvholmen Amid Strong Winds

On April 28, the cargo ship 'Malta Cement' ran aground due to winds reaching approximately 7 m/s off the coast of Kalvholmen. Thankfully, the vessel's hull remained intact and no oil leak has been reported. Onboard, the ship carried 77 cubic meters of heavy oil and 27.1 cubic meters of diesel fuel while being loaded with cement on its way from Rostock, Germany to Sweden. In response to the incident, divers from the Coast Guard were dispatched for an evening inspection of the ship's hull. Additionally, the environmental protection vessel 'KBV031' was en route to the grounding location. Plans are in place for a tugboat to assist in refloating the 'Malta Cement', pending approval from the Coast Guard Incident Commander and the Maritime Inspector of the Swedish Transport Agency.
