Tugboat Makes Emergency Stop in Bermuda After Crew Injury
In a swift response to a crew injury, the tugboat 'Union Manta' made an unplanned detour to Bermuda over the weekend. The incident occurred on March 28, 2013, while the tug was engaged in towing the gigantic barge crane, 'SSCV Thialf,' from Portugal to Port Fouchon in Louisiana. Reports indicate that a serious accident resulted in a crew member suffering a severed finger. Upon receiving the distress call, the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre coordinated the necessary medical assistance. On March 29, just after 8 p.m., the 'Union Manta' rendezvoused with the pilot boat 'St David.' The injured crewman was successfully transferred and taken to the island for urgent medical treatment. Following the delivery of the crew member, 'Union Manta' resumed its journey, continuing to tow the impressive 136,709-tonne crane barge.
