In the early hours of September 30, 2017, at approximately 01:50 a.m., the bulk carrier 'IVS Nightjar' encountered a collision with the Vietnamese barge 'BV 1305' near Vung Tau. The 'IVS Nightjar', which had departed from Phy-My-Vung Tau the previous evening at 8:30 p.m., was navigating in the area when the incident occurred. Fortunately, all eight crew members aboard the barge were safely rescued by a nearby SAR vessel. However, the sinking of the barge, which occurred within or close to the fairway, posed a significant obstruction to maritime traffic, necessitating its removal. Following the incident, the bulk carrier anchored in the Vung Tau roads as investigations and salvage operations commenced.
