On July 4, 2015, a daring ordeal unfolded as the German motor yacht 'Fortuna' found itself trapped between the bulk carrier 'Atlantic Clover' and the quay at Elbe Port in Brunsbüttel. At approximately 10:35 a.m., the yacht's skipper alerted the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Bremen about an engine failure, prompting an immediate response. The DGzRS lifeboat 'Gillis Gulbransson' was dispatched to assist the distressed vessel, which was transporting two crew members en route from Winsen/Luhe towards the Baltic Sea. Despite the skipper's efforts to navigate the yacht towards the bulk pier, strong outgoing currents hindered proper berthing. Regrettably, 'Fortuna' was pushed into a precarious position, trapped between the quay and the mighty 'Atlantic Clover', putting it at risk of being crushed. The lifeboat, drifting with the current, approached the stricken yacht and successfully secured a towing line. Before the towing operation commenced, the crew of 'Fortuna' was safely evacuated from the precarious situation. Subsequently, the yacht was extracted and towed towards the pleasure boat marina in Brunsbüttel, where it was placed in a secure location. The 'Atlantic Clover' continued its journey, departing Brunsbüttel on July 5 at 10:40 a.m., bound for St. Petersburg.
