Cargo Vessel MV Mara Experiences Engine Room Blaze Near Manila Bay
On Sunday, November 21, 2010, at 18:26 local time, the Coast Guard Action Center received an urgent report regarding the MV Mara, a cargo ship, which encountered a fire in its engine room while navigating approximately 60 nautical miles southwest of Manila Bay. In response, the Philippine Coast Guard swiftly deployed the search and rescue vessel BRP EDSA 2 (SAR 002) to the affected area. Additionally, a NOTICE TO MARINERS (NOTAM) was disseminated via the Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS), alerting other vessels in the vicinity to offer assistance if needed. Fortunately, Coast Guard Action Center successfully established communication with the captain of the MV Mara, confirming that the fire had been contained and that all crew members were reported safe.
