In the early hours of July 28, 2019, at approximately 2 a.m., the National Society for Sea Rescues (SNSM) at Sète received an urgent call regarding a fire incident involving the cargo ship 'Marfret Niolon.' The vessel was located ten nautical miles off the coast, having departed from Marseille the previous day at 6:30 a.m. Upon receiving the alert, the lifeboat 'Admiral Leenhardt' was dispatched. However, by the time it reached the scene, the fire had already been effectively managed by the onboard crew of 15. Despite their efforts, the 'Marfret Niolon' was left incapable of navigation. The Cross Mediterranean (CROSS Med) in Toulon subsequently coordinated the deployment of tug assistance, summoning the tug 'TSM Moulis' from the port of Sète and the offshore tug 'Abeille Flandre.' While these tugs were en route, the SNSM vessel remained stationed alongside the roll-on/roll-off ship to monitor the situation and ensure safety until dawn. Ultimately, the 'Marfret Niolon' was securely towed by 'Abeille Flandre' back to Marseille, arriving in the afternoon. Following repairs, the vessel resumed its voyage on August 24 at noon, destined for La Gulette in Tunisia, with an estimated arrival time of August 26.
