Collision at Sea: Turkish Bulk Carrier MARAKI K and German Heavy Lift Ship MARIA Collide Near Constanta

Oct 26, 2017 15:08

In a significant maritime incident, the Turkish bulk carrier MARAKI K collided with the German heavy lift vessel MARIA at the outer anchorage of Constanta around 0300 UTC on October 25. Both ships were reportedly in motion at the time, as they were maneuvering for anchorage. Fortunately, initial reports indicate that neither vessel sustained severe damage, and no leaks were detected following the incident. However, the movements of MARAKI K raise some questions; after leaving the anchorage at a speed of approximately 7 knots, the ship veered away into deeper waters and by 1500 UTC was observed traveling southward at a slower pace of 3 to 4 knots, leading to speculation whether the vessel was navigating or drifting. At the time of the collision, MARIA was anchored and stable within the Constanta Anchorage.

Collision in Grand Harbour: Heavy Load Carrier Maria Strikes Fishing Trawler Angela Arcella

Aug 10, 2016 09:29

In a significant maritime incident on August 9, 2016, the heavy load carrier "Maria" collided with the fishing trawler "Angela Arcella" in Grand Harbour at 12:10 p.m. While navigating to berth at Laboratory Wharf, "Maria" experienced a mechanical failure that resulted in the vessel crashing into the starboard side of the Italian fishing vessel. The impact caused "Angela Arcella" to capsize, prompting two of her crew members to leap into the water. Fortunately, they were later rescued and taken to a hospital without serious injuries. Efforts were promptly initiated to mitigate potential seawater contamination due to the incident. Additionally, the heavy load carrier also struck the moored cargo ship "Union," registered in Congo, which broke free from its moorings and collided with the tugboat "Lieni." Thankfully, this collision did not result in any reported damages.
