The Maria-De-Maeztu: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On June 18, 2024, the pleasure vessel 'Ortzio Secondo' encountered a critical mechanical issue while navigating 16 nautical miles north of Bilbao, carrying three passengers. The Spanish maritime rescue organization, CCS Bilbao of Salvamento Marítimo, swiftly responded by dispatching the tugboat 'María de Maeztu' from the Port of Bilbao. Demonstrating prompt action and maritime expertise, the tug successfully towed 'Ortzio Secondo' to safety at Getxo Kaia.

On November 5, 2010, a significant maritime incident unfolded off the coast of Deba when the Basque trawler "Motxo" ran aground. At approximately 2 PM, the tugboat "Maria de Maeztu" attempted to maneuver the stricken vessel. Unfortunately, the operation led to the "Motxo" capsizing onto its starboard side. Following a thorough inspection conducted by technicians the next day, it was determined that the vessel's bottom tanks were empty, and the hull exhibited critical cracks, rendering the "Motxo" beyond salvage. The 25-meter fishing trawler had originally stranded the previous day, prompting a heroic helicopter rescue for its nine crew members.
