The ship experienced a significant incident on October 29, 2016, when it lost its rudder while navigating the North Atlantic, specifically south of Santa Maria Island, during a voyage from Quebec to Gent. On October 29, 2016, the bulk carrier 'Gadwall' faced a critical situation in the Gulf of St. Lawrence following the loss of its rudder while traveling from Quebec to Gent. After being rendered disabled, the vessel was assisted by the tug 'Ocean Artique' (IMO: 9261607), which began towing the disabled ship on November 1 toward Sept Iles. The escorting tug successfully reached its destination around noon on November 2, where the tug 'Ocean Yvan Desgagnes' (IMO: 9542207) took over the tow to ensure safe arrival.
