Cargo Vessel 'Marie' Runs Aground on River Trent

Aug 07, 2017 11:47

On the afternoon of August 6, 2017, the cargo ship 'Marie' ran aground on the River Trent near Keadby Bridge, close to Scunthorpe. The vessel was en route to Gunness Wharf when it became stranded due to low tide conditions, which were anticipated at 3:30 p.m. Despite efforts from two tugboats during the high tide the same night, attempts to free the 'Marie' were unsuccessful, prompting the salvage operations to halt until morning. As the situation unfolded, North Lincolnshire Council took precautionary measures by closing the footpath along Keadby Bridge while three tugs worked to stabilize the stranded vessel. Finally, on the morning of August 7, at approximately 7:45 a.m., the rising tide allowed the tugs to maneuver the ship successfully, turning it around in the river. The 'Marie' had set sail from Ceuta on July 27 prior to the grounding incident. Gibraltar-flagged Fehn Mirage Released by Spanish Authorities in Algeciras

Nov 12, 2013 09:49

On November 11, 2023, Spanish maritime officials in Algeciras lifted the detention of the Gibraltar-flagged vessel, Fehn Mirage, which had been held following a technical inspection conducted the previous week. The Fehn Mirage, known for its transport of rock shipments to Gibraltar, faced scrutiny, but authorities clarified that the reasons for its detention were unrelated to its cargo history. The crew collaboratively worked with experts from the Gibraltar Maritime Administration to rectify a few minor issues identified by Spanish authorities during the inspection. The Fehn Mirage was detained in accordance with the Paris Memorandum of Understanding concerning port state control. At the time of its inspection, the vessel was in Algeciras for a commercial visit and was in the process of unloading.
