Gibdock Welcomes Three German Containerships Amid Surge in Shiprepair Activity

Dec 23, 2017 18:28

Gibdock, the renowned shiprepair facility in Gibraltar, has seen a notable influx of German shipowners, marking a resurgence in maritime activity at the yard. In a remarkable six-week span during the last quarter of 2017, three German containerships docked at the location for essential repairs and maintenance. Among these was the 1,300 TEU vessel AS Fatima, operated by Ahrenkiel Steamship, which underwent a range of repair programs during its stay. The 166-meter-long AS Fatima arrived in late October specifically to address a stern tube complication. This involved a meticulous process where the yard dismantled the tailshaft and transported it to the workshop for an extensive overhaul of the propeller blades, blade carriers, and propeller hub. Over the course of its 21-day visit to Gibdock, the crew also performed a complete overhaul of the main engines, ensuring the vessel's peak operational efficiency.
