Marvel I Bulk Carrier Disabled Near Vancouver's Lions Gate Bridge

On March 3, 2022, the bulk carrier 'Marvel I' experienced a mechanical failure shortly after it passed under the iconic Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver's English Bay. The ship, which had departed from Vancouver carrying a load of grain, was headed for Longkou when it encountered difficulties. At approximately 11:50 a.m., the Coast Guard received an emergency call from the vessel reporting its issues as it cleared the bridge. The 'Marvel I' promptly dropped anchor, resting near Siwash Rock and was slightly grounded on a sandy bottom in a north-south orientation. Within two hours, a coordinated effort from four tugboats successfully maneuvered the carrier away from its position close to Stanley Park. Following the rescue, the ship was escorted to English Bay where it anchored for a thorough inspection. As of March 4, the 'Marvel I' was stationary at position 49° 17.70' N 123° 15.22' W, awaiting further evaluation.
