In an emergency operation, the CROSS Réunion successfully coordinated the medevac of an Indonesian crew member from the vessel 'Le Mascareignes 3', who experienced severe abdominal pain. This critical evacuation took place on January 4, 2017, on the remote island of Kerguelen. Following an initial medical evaluation in collaboration with the Maritime Medical Advisory Center (MCCC) and the District Medical Officer, a decision was reached to expedite his repatriation to La Réunion. The crew member was transferred onto the research vessel 'La Curieuse', which is expected to reach La Réunion in approximately ten days, contingent upon prevailing weather conditions. Additionally, to ensure comprehensive care during the transfer, the deputy physician from the Base of Port-aux-Français will accompany the patient and will be repatriated by the first available means after the evacuation.
