Matson Anchorage Receives Major Upgrade with New Scrubber Technology

May 18, 2017 11:01

Matson, Inc. (NYSE: MATX) proudly announced the return of the Matson Anchorage to Alaska, following an extensive three-month upgrade that included the installation of advanced scrubber technology. This innovative equipment significantly reduces particulate matter and sulfur emissions from the vessel's engine exhaust, establishing it as one of the cleanest operating ships in Alaskan waters. Built in 1987 by Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, WI, the vessel was initially launched as the Sea-Land Anchorage and is now the last of Matson’s trio of D7 Class containerships serving Alaska to receive this vital upgrade. Its sister ships, Matson Kodiak and Matson Tacoma, underwent similar enhancements and resumed service last year, furthering Matson's commitment to environmental sustainability and cleaner operations.
