On October 27, 2011, the U.S. Coast Guard and Washington Department of Ecology were actively monitoring the situation involving the container ship 'Horizon Tacoma,' which encountered a propulsion failure while navigating close to Vancouver Island, B.C. The vessel was en route to Anchorage when it experienced issues approximately 11 miles off the coast. In response to the emergency, 'Horizon Tacoma' dropped anchor and carried out temporary repairs while positioned offshore. Following these efforts, the ship made its way towards Puget Sound. Assistance was provided by two tugboats, 'Garth Foss' from Port Angeles and 'Jeffrey Foss' from Neah Bay. Coast Guard vessel inspectors, along with members of the Sector Puget Sound team, plan to board the 'Horizon Tacoma' to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the loss of propulsion.
