In a recent maritime incident at Tokuyamakudamatsu Port in Yamaguchi, Japan, the freighter "Maya" capsized during loading operations, causing a significant concern for local shipping activity. While most of the ship's lost cargo containers remained secured near the pier, several have unfortunately drifted into the harbor. The Tokuyama Coast Guard is now urging all shipping companies and vessels to remain vigilant and exercise caution regarding floating containers in the area. In addition to the drifting cargo, a small amount of heavy fuel oil leaked from the capsized "Maya," creating a light sheen on the water's surface. Fortunately, authorities have reported that there has been no major spill at this time. Efforts are currently underway to gather more information and investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.

On July 31 at noon local time, the container vessel 'Maya' experienced a critical failure, capsizing at its dock in Shunan Port, Honshu. The incident occurred as the ship was in the process of loading containers, resulting in a significant loss of stability that caused it to tilt precariously to the starboard side. This unfortunate event led to approximately 100 shipping containers spilling into the surrounding waters, drifting within Shunan Port and Tolkuyama Bay. Fortunately, the three crew members aboard were able to escape, though one required hospitalization due to injuries. The incident also resulted in a fuel leak of around 40 liters, prompting immediate efforts to recover the floating containers and address the fuel stain. Notably, the starboard side of the capsized vessel remained visible above the water's surface.
