Seven Italian crew members from the seized cargo ship 'Antonella Lembo' have successfully returned to Italy after being detained in China since June 2020. The vessel, operated by the Neapolitan company Giovanni Bottiglieri, has been stuck off the coast of Huanghua due to ongoing trade disputes between China and Australia, which prevented the unloading of its substantial cargo of 91,500 tons of coal. The crew members arrived in Rome yesterday after a connecting flight from Beijing that included a stopover in Paris. They were warmly welcomed by their families upon arrival. However, the situation remains unresolved for seven Filipino seafarers who were also on board the 'Antonella Lembo' as diplomatic efforts to secure their disembarkation are still ongoing. Meanwhile, regarding the 'MBA Giovanni,' another vessel in the same company, its crew consisting of six Italians and 13 Filipinos will remain on board until they can be replaced in the upcoming weeks, allowing them to return home as well.
