During this urgent maneuver, the vessel was unfortunately struck on the starboard side stern by the tanker 'Mazu Xiao', which was transporting a significant 6,620 tons of diesel fuel from Constanta to Izmail. On November 19, 2018, at approximately 1 p.m., the tanker 'Tradewind Legend,' en route from Georgetown, experienced engine failure and drifted on the Suriname River. The vessel collided with 11 fishing boats stationed at the fishing center in Nieuw Amsterdam, Commewijne, causing significant damage to the vessels. The drifting was eventually halted when the tanker dropped anchor. The 'Tradewind Legend' was destined for the Tout Lui Faut oil refinery in Wanica to load an oil export cargo.
