TUTICORIN: A fresh weekly container feeder service has been inaugurated, connecting the key ports of Colombo, Kochi, and Tuticorin, starting January 20. This new route operates from the Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal (DBGT), which is the second container terminal at V O Chidambaranar Port. The inaugural journey was made by the MV Asiatic Neptune, a container feeder vessel operated by Bengal Tiger Line (BTL). According to port officials, this service is set to enhance shipping capabilities, with an expected annual throughput of approximately 40,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). The MV Asiatic Neptune boasts a capacity of 1,155 TEUs and a maximum draft of 7.8 meters, making it a significant addition to the region's maritime logistics infrastructure.
