Conmar Gulf Collides with Marker in Foggy Brunsbüttel Incident
On November 6, 2018, at 9:40 a.m., the container vessel 'Conmar Gulf', while navigating from Kemi to Hamburg, collided with a platform that served as a signal light to mark the remnants of the former jetty 3 near the locks of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel. The allision resulted in the platform collapsing into the water. In response to the hazardous situation created by the accident, a warning buoy was deployed to alert other vessels in the vicinity. Notably, the incident occurred during periods of dense fog that reduced visibility. After addressing the situation, the 'Conmar Gulf' continued its journey, departing at 11 a.m. and ultimately arriving in Hamburg at 11 p.m.
