Collision in Venice: Cargo Ships Involved in Marghera Port Incident
On March 29, 2021, at 10:20 a.m., a maritime incident occurred in the West-North industrial area of the bustling Marghera port in Venice. The bulk carrier 'Baskop,' which was making its way from Ortona with a load of 6,200 tons of soda, collided with the Togo-flagged cargo vessel 'Cileen M.' The latter was securely moored at CIAW 1, preparing to load 4,700 tons of sand at the time of the accident. As the 'Baskop,' with the assistance of the tug 'Vanna C.,' maneuvered to enter the port, it made contact with the 'Cileen M.', striking its port side stern with the starboard side stern of the 'Baskop.' Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or pollution resulting from this incident. In response to the collision, the Port Authority of Venice dispatched personnel to the location to initiate a preliminary investigation. In the following days, the Venice Coast Guard's Port State Control Unit will conduct further technical examinations to assess the safety conditions of both ships before allowing them to depart from the port. Ocean Victory Sets Sail After Extended Legal Dispute
After an extensive stay of nearly 2.5 years at the Port of Aveiro, the vessel previously known as the 'Ocean Victory' has finally departed, now rebranded as the 'Bassel K'. This lengthy legal battle not only hindered the ship’s own operations but also obstructed the maneuvers of other vessels, complicating the loading and unloading processes for many ships in the area. The Maritime Court issued the order for the ship to sail, and it resumed its journey on March 14, 2019.
