Rescue Operation Brings Castaways from Capsized Tanker to La Guaira
On May 29, 2022, the National Institute of Aquatic Spaces (INEA) in Venezuela welcomed nine of the sixteen crew members from the Comores-flagged tanker m/v 'Cetus', which met with disaster approximately 130 nautical miles northwest of Aruba. The crew members were salvaged by the vessel 'Melba' and successfully brought to Port of La Guaira. This group included three Venezuelans, five Dominicans, and one Cuban national. The successful rescue mission was executed in collaboration with the consulates of Cuba and the Dominican Republic, alongside the Coast Guard Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB). The unfortunate capsizing of the tanker occurred on May 27, 2022, amidst tumultuous sea conditions.
