Working Conditions Aboard the Melman

In the early hours of Saturday, at approximately 0235hrs, a Maritime incident unfolded off the coast of Singapore when three armed pirates targeted the Moldova-registered tugboat named Octopus. The attack occurred 14 nautical miles northeast of the Horsburgh Lighthouse. Alerted by the second engineer on board, who bravely raised the alarm after spotting the assailants, the crew faced an alarming situation. Fortunately, while the pirates managed to escape, the second engineer suffered minor injuries to his hands and feet. The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) has reported on this concerning event, highlighting the ongoing risks maritime workers face in these waters.
