Tanker 'Mi Deseo' Collides with Sluiskil Bridge in Gent-Terneuzen-Canal
On the morning of September 13, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the tanker 'Mi Deseo,' while en route to Antwerp, collided with the Sluiskil Bridge during its passage through the Gent-Terneuzen-Canal. The impact resulted in significant damage to the vessel's wheelhouse. Despite the incident, the tanker was able to continue its journey from Werkendam under its own power, eventually reaching Terneuzen where it was secured at an emergency jetty. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and structural integrity of the Sluiskil Bridge remained intact. Following the event, Rijkswaterstaat initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. The 'Mi Deseo' departed Terneuzen on September 16 and proceeded to berth at the 6th dock in Antwerp.
