Complaint Initiated Against Captain and Shipping Company of 'Minerva Oceania'
The Maritime Services Agency has officially lodged a complaint concerning the captain and the shipping firm behind the vessel 'Minerva Oceania', which is currently in quarantine at the Leopold dock in Antwerp, with the restrictions expected to last until at least July 4. Out of a total of 26 crew members aboard the ship, 15 have tested positive for Covid-19. Authorities are assessing the situation to determine if the ship can safely depart within the next week. The Agency for Maritime Services and Coast (MDK) has raised concerns regarding the validity of the captain's health declaration, suggesting it may not have been completed in earnest. A judicial investigation is set to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Cor Radings, a spokesperson for Minerva, stated that the captain reported the first symptoms promptly, which occurred the day following the departure of the pilots. He emphasized that Saniport, the health authority responsible for managing international traffic, also recognized the timely nature of the reporting.
COVID-19 Outbreak on Minerva Oceania: Pilot Infected and Quarantine Measures Implemented
A concerning situation has arisen at the port of Antwerp, where a pilot who facilitated the docking of the 'Minerva Oceania' has reportedly contracted the COVID-19 virus, according to the Agency for Maritime Services and Coast. This incident prompted the immediate quarantine of the vessel within the Leopold dock, as 15 out of the 26 crew members have tested positive for the virus. At the time of the pilot's engagement with the ship, awareness of the outbreak had not yet been established. In response to the situation, all personnel who were in close contact with the affected pilot have been notified and advised to remain in self-isolation as a precautionary measure. Thankfully, there are ample pilots available to ensure that shipping operations to and from the port continue without disruption. A second pilot, who was also aboard the 'Minerva Oceania', is currently symptom-free, but like the infected pilot, he will undergo a two-week quarantine period to prevent any potential further spread of the virus.
