Sailing Ship 'Mir' Collides with Van at Bremerhaven Harbour

May 26, 2019 17:40

On June 25, 2019, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the iconic sailing ship 'Mir' experienced an unfortunate allision in Bremerhaven. As the vessel prepared for departure, it inadvertently glided along the quay, colliding with a van belonging to guests from the tourism support organization, BIS. The incident occurred at the Sea Bath Quay, where the tug 'Svitzer Vale' (IMO: 9831921) was assisting the ship's maneuvering onto the Weser River. The impact caused the van to topple onto its side, resulting in significant damage estimated at around €50,000. Additionally, the vessel struck tents set up by the THW (Technical Support Work) along the quay, causing further disruption. Fortunately, the 'Mir' sustained only minor damage, including scratches and a dent on its starboard side stern. Following the incident, the 'Mir' successfully departed Bremerhaven on May 27 at 8:30 a.m., setting its course for Rouen. Sailing Ship Mir Collides with Pleasure Boat in Rostock's Warnow

Aug 10, 2018 22:03

On the evening of August 10, 2018, a 12-meter pleasure craft collided with the renowned sailing ship "Mir" while it was docked at the Rostock Yard, situated on the scenic Warnow River. The impact caused significant damage to the starboard side of the "Mir," resulting in a 19-centimeter breach situated 1.5 meters above the waterline. The pleasure boat also sustained considerable bow damage from the allision. As a consequence of the incident, the "Mir" was detained by authorities. The ship's captain attempted to conduct emergency repairs overnight to ensure participation in the upcoming Rostock Sail event on August 11, but these efforts proved unsuccessful. Consequently, the iconic vessel will remain at the quay and will not be able to join the Windjammer Parade. Following temporary repairs in Rostock, the "Mir" is scheduled to undergo more extensive repairs in St. Petersburg upon its return next week.
