On the night of May 27, 2018, the Australian Border Force made a startling discovery about 130 km off the coast of Darwin when they spotted the 'Mermaid Vision' adrift at sea. The vessel, with four crew members on board, had run dangerously low on both fuel and water after drifting for 30 hours and had only recently been reported missing. The federal aircraft crew noticed the crew using their cell phone lights to signal for help, illuminating a jerry can on board.
