Argentine Corvette Collides with Tanker Due to Drifting Anchor
On the night of May 31, 2016, the Argentine Navy's MEKO 140 corvette, 'Espora - P 41', encountered a significant mishap while anchored off the Puerto Belgrano Naval Base. The vessel was inadvertently adrift due to strong winds, causing its anchor to drag. This unexpected movement resulted in a collision with the tanker 'Saturn' at the port side of the corvette in the Charlie anchorage area of the Bahia Blanca estuary, located south of Buenos Aires. Despite sustaining considerable damage from the impact, the Espora was able to navigate back to the naval base under its own power on the morning of June 1 for necessary repairs.
